The Visit (City of God-style)

So today I worked up the guts to pay her a visit.
Well I can't tell the story of The Visit without telling you the stories of The Anniversary, The Encounter, The Girl, or The Jaw!

The Anniversary
Tuesday was my parents' 19th freakin' anniversary. As usual, I had to run around Markville to look for a gift of some sort. The only place I know where to get a nice gift is at Ko's. Actually, I only went in to see if I could see her...

The Encounter
One morning in June, I drove over to Markville to do some thinking while I mindlessly walked around. It was around 9 AM, and I was crossing the food court across from Tim Hortons when this girl at a table started waving in my general direction. Naturally, I look behind me, but no one is there. She was waving at me and calling my name. As I moved closer to her, I suddenly recognized her face and my heart stopped.

The Girl
We first met at a community festival I always volunteer in a couple of summers ago. She was the perky, radiant-type, and I was the friendly, quiet-type. We got talking and we did some stuff together that day. The only thing that stands out in my mind was the tug-of-war. The rope was pretty thorny, so she had trouble holding it without hurting her hands. I helped her out by giving her napkins to hold the rope with =P . I don't remember if we won or lost, but it didn't really matter to me. Since then, we traded contact info, but never really kept in touch afterwards.

The Encounter II
It was her. We talked until she had to get to work. At Ko's, which was a dozen steps away. She hadn't changed to me over two years, but she said I had changed. A lot. I always thought I never really deviated from... me.

The Anniversary II
She wasn't there. I found a gift for them, but the store didn't have the right box for it. I had to come back another day to exchange it when they found it. While the manager was wrapping it, I brought up my aquaintance with her, hoping for some sort of longshot discount. The manager said that she had surgery last week.

The Jaw
Sometime after the festival, I went to her house to talk. See, she has an unusually big jaw for a girl. Not Jay Leno-esque, but larger than the average person. She was still attractive, but this was something she thought she needed to fix.

The Visit II
I went to Loblaws at Warden and Highway 7. It's closing Sunday, don't bother going there ever again. The place was gutted. The florist inside had just a small selection to choose from. Red is too romantic... yellow is like a death wish... so I settled on a bunch of purple flowers. Not too presumptuous, hm?
When I arrived at her doorstep, I started to get the butterflies. Questions started popping in my head. "What do I say?" "How will she look?" "What if she can't talk?" "Would I puke if it looked nasty?"
I rang the doorbell and her mom opened the door. I held the flowers kinda behind my back, being all coy. I heard her upstairs. "I have blood on my shirt!" I started to feel sick. She walked down the stairs with an icepack to her chin. It was like a huge black bruise with a radius of 5 cm on her chin. I did my best to smile, I don't know how well that went. She responded with "OMG", "you shouldn't have", and such. She looked really weak, but genuinely happy at my gesture. The surgery went well. I couldn't stay, even though she invited, because I had to pick up my sister. I tried to open the door to leave, but the damn lock wouldn't budge! My hands were fumbling around as I finally got it open, and said good-bye. I was relieved once I got back into the car. My feet were still kinda shaky, so my steadiness on the pedal was rough at best.

The Anniversary III
I went to Ko's after and I exchanged my box. I told the manager about her condition, but she had called her the day before. Man, there are some hot Asian chicks working at Ko's =D !
